Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 21062 (Inventory No. 13 (1908), p. 136) and the entry for PI 21062 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date, the village, a Chinese name and a description of the crop there. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-UNK-0119070001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 21062.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • UNK: no province is recorded.
  • Month 01: January, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1907 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

Meyer's note describes a variety grown on the sandy lands around the place he names, so the accession is classified Landrace.

Collectors and donors

The inventory gives the seed as Meyer's number 703a with his note, and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.

Name

The inventory gives the Chinese name as Shem-ma, unglossed; GRIN-Global has the same. It is entered as the local name.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names Wu-lu-kai, Manchuria, and nothing finer. The place has not been matched to a settlement on today's map, so the page has no point and the map is off. GRIN-Global gives no province, and Manchuria then took in three provinces, so none is entered.

Dates

The collection date is the printed one, 3 January 1907; GRIN-Global gives 8 January 1907. The department received the consignment on 21 June 1907, the lot's received date.
