Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 29524 (Inventory No. 26 (1912), pp. 29–30) and the entry for PI 29524 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the donor, a Chinese name, the district where the crop is grown, its altitude and its use. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-SIC-0019110002 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 29524.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • SIC stands for Sichuan.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1911 is the year the department received the lot.
  • 0002 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

Wilson's note describes an autumn crop grown by the peasants of the mountains he names, so the accession is classified Landrace.

Collectors and donors

The inventory says the seed was "Presented by Mr. E. H. Wilson", and GRIN-Global lists him as its source. Neither source gives a number or date of gathering, so the infobox gives no collector.

Name

The note gives the Chinese name as Man ma, unglossed; GRIN-Global has the same. It is entered as the local name.

Location and georeferencing

Wilson names the mountains west of Kwanhsien, between 3,000 and 5,000 feet. Kwanhsien is today's Dujiangyan, a county-level city of Sichuan whose western part is that mountain country. The point 31.00, 103.61 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for Dujiangyan (relation 2110257), taken as an area point for the district, not a field. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 25 km, the radius of Dujiangyan's area (about 1,200 km²) with the town at its eastern edge.

Dates

The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 8 February 1911 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt.
