Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 28054 (Inventory No. 23 (1911), p. 61) and the entry for PI 28054 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the place the sample came from, a Chinese name and the crop it belongs to. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-LIA-0019100001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 28054.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • LIA stands for Liaoning.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1910 is the year the department received the lot.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The note says the sample comes from Mukden and is of the hemp grown in large quantities in Manchuria for fibre, a field crop of the region the place lies in, so the accession is classified Landrace.

Collectors and donors

The inventory heads the set "Procured by Mr. Edward C. Parker, agriculturist, Bureau of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce, Mukden", and GRIN-Global lists Parker as its source. No one is said to have gathered the seed, so the infobox gives no collector.

Name

The note gives the Chinese name as Howma, unglossed; GRIN-Global has the same. It is entered as the local name.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names Mukden, today's Shenyang, and nothing finer. The point 41.80, 123.43 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the city of Shenyang (relation 2769604), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 10 km, the radius of the city's built-up core.

Dates

The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 2 June 1910 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt.
