Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 64310 (Inventory No. 83 (1927), p. 45) and the entry for PI 64310 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date and the market, and a report that the seed was grown locally. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-HLJ-0519250001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 64310.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • HLJ stands for Heilongjiang.
  • Month 05: May, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1925 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The seed was bought in a market. It was "said to be locally grown", but the entry does not say where or by whom, so the accession is classified Unknown.

Collectors and donors

The inventory heads the consignment "Seeds collected by P. H. Dorsett", and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names Pristan, the river-port quarter of Harbin, and nothing finer. The point 45.75, 126.61 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for Daoli District, which takes in the old Pristan (relation 5650561), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 3 km, the old quarter's extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form.

Dates

The collection date is the printed one, 5 May 1925; GRIN-Global gives 9 May 1925. The department received the consignment on 19 June 1925, the lot's received date.
