Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 63435 (Inventory No. 82 (1927), p. 52) and the entry for PI 63435 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date and the district of the consignment, and nothing on the plants. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-HEB-0219250001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 63435.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • HEB stands for Hebei.
  • Month 02: February, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1925 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The entry gives a place and a date and nothing about the crop or who grew it, so the accession is classified Unknown.

Collectors and donors

The inventory heads the consignment "Collected by P. H. Dorsett", and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names the orchard area along the northern foothills near Huailai, about 1,800 feet above sea level. The old town of Huailai now lies under the Guanting Reservoir, so the point is that of the county: 40.34, 115.64, the point OpenStreetMap gives for Huailai County (relation 3295552), an area point for the county, not a field. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 24 km, the radius of the county's area (about 1,800 km²).

Dates

The collection date, 2 February 1925, is the date of Dorsett's number as both sources give it. Both give the month of receipt only, March 1925, which is the received date.
