Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 62403 (Inventory No. 82 (1927), p. 13) and the entry for PI 62403 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date, the market and the use. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-CHN-BEI-1119240003 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 62403.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.CHNis the ISO code for China.BEIstands for Beijing.- Month
11: November, the month the seed was gathered. - Year 1924 is the year the seed was gathered.
0003is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
The seed was bought in a market and was used for bird seed, and neither source says where it was grown, so the accession is classified Unknown.
Collectors and donors
The inventory heads the consignment "Seeds and corms collected by P. H. Dorsett", and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.
Location and georeferencing
The inventory names Peking and its market and nothing finer. The point 39.91, 116.39 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the city of Beijing (relation 912940), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 10 km, the radius of the old city.
Dates
The collection date, 26 November 1924, is the date of Dorsett's number as both sources give it. The department received the consignment on 5 January 1925, the lot's received date.
