Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 62401 (Inventory No. 82 (1927), p. 13) and the entry for PI 62401 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collector, his number, the date and the place, and nothing on the plants. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-CHN-BEI-1119240001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 62401.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • CHN is the ISO code for China.
  • BEI stands for Beijing.
  • Month 11: November, the month the seed was gathered.
  • Year 1924 is the year the seed was gathered.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The entry gives a place and a date and nothing about the crop or who grew it, so the accession is classified Unknown.

Collectors and donors

The inventory heads the consignment "Seeds and corms collected by P. H. Dorsett", and GRIN-Global lists him as collector, so he is given as collector.

Location and georeferencing

The inventory names Huangan, on the route from Shihchiaying past One Hundred Flower Mountain, and nothing finer. The point 39.87, 115.59 is the point OpenStreetMap gives for the village of Huang'antuo, Mentougou, northwest of that mountain (Baihua Shan) (node 866156906), a locality georeference for the place the source names, not a collection point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 3 km, the village's extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form; the match rests on the name and the route the inventory describes.

Dates

The collection date, 8 November 1924, is the date of Dorsett's number as both sources give it. The department received the consignment on 5 January 1925, the lot's received date.
