Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The manuscript label reads Cannabis en fleur (cannabis in flower), with the place name and the date 5/12/03, and the sheet is annotated as a male plant. The locality cannot presently be placed on a map, which limits it to country level. The label gives no elevation, habitat, local name or statement of use. Nothing on it shows whether the plant was cultivated, grew wild or had escaped, so the accession is classified Unknown. It records no continuing population and no living germplasm holding, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

No coordinates are recorded. The place name, transcribed by the catalogue as Manglié, could not be matched to any mapped settlement, and the hand admits more than one reading, so no georeference is asserted and no province is assigned. The name is retained exactly as the catalogue transcribes it, so that a later reader can match it against a Belgian Congo gazetteer or the Laurent itineraries.
