Border

The appellation's border is the part of the municipality of La Paz (OpenStreetMap relation 11890104; DIVIPOLA code 20621) that lies inside the border of the Serranía del Perijá growing area (the ground at or above 200 metres on the range): about 642 km², 60% of the municipality's 1,066 km²; the rest lies below 200 metres, outside the growing area. The municipal border is today's. The point in the infobox is a point inside the border, not a field.

Sources

  • La Silla Vacía (2016) places the disputes over land to plant marijuana in the 1970s in the corregimiento of San José de Oriente. OpenStreetMap places the village of San José del Oriente inside this border.
  • The status is Active: the Ministry of Defence's eradication dataset lists, for La Paz with crop type marihuana, 18 rows from 2 July 2008 to 20 April 2018, 29.68 hectares in all (downloaded 20 October 2026). The dataset gives the municipality only, not whether the crop stood on the range or on the valley floor.
  • Mongabay (2019) gives the Yukpa reserves by municipality, not their position within it.
