Evidentiary scope
The label places a cannabis plant at Logar within a collection its printed foot dates to 1879–1880, presented to Edinburgh by Dr J. W. Johnston. It names no habitat, use, variety or local name, and does not say whether the plant was wild, escaped or cultivated. The accession is classified Other. A single sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. No conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from the Edinburgh image (E00405506, 2535 × 4096 pixels).
- Printed label HERBARIUM, ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN, EDINBURGH. with, by hand, Cannabis sativa L. / Logar: / Afghanistan.
- Printed foot AFGHANISTAN, 1879-1880. / Dr J. W. JOHNSTON. / PRESENTED.
- Edinburgh receipt stamp in the middle of the sheet; not a field datum.
There is no collector number and no habitat note.
Georeferencing
No coordinate is asserted because Logar names a valley and a province, not a collection point. The province field takes Logar Province.
Editorial treatment
The title and the collection date take 1879, the catalogue's and GBIF's year; the label itself gives only the span 1879-1880. The collector field takes J.W. Johnston, the label's form; the label calls him Dr and gives no further identification, and none is added here.
Source discrepancies
- Date. Label: AFGHANISTAN, 1879-1880. (the collection's span). Catalogue and GBIF: 1879.
- Locality. Label: Logar: Afghanistan. Catalogue: Afghanistan:Lowgar:Logar.
The stored date follows the catalogue because the field holds one value; the article quotes the label's span.
