Page scope
Jalori is the Growing Area page for the slopes on both sides of the Jalori ridge around the Jalori Pass in Kullu district: the upper Jibhi Gad on the north side and the upper Ani Gad on the south. It rests on the ruling that "the area around the Jalori Pass is a growing area" (Decision Digest, KV-D22). The main valley of the Tirthan is a separate growing area, Tirthan Valley (KV-D21).

Discussion
Title
- Why "Jalori". The gazetteers name the hemp tract after the ridge: hemp "grown extensively in the high-lying villages on the slopes on both sides of the Jalori ridge" (1897 gazetteer, p. 84; 1917 gazetteer, p. 91). The ridge takes its name "from the name of the chief pass over it" (1897 gazetteer, p. 3). The ridge is also the boundary between Inner and Outer Saraj, so neither half of Saraj holds the whole area. Inner Saraj, which runs from the Sainj to the ridge, would also contain the Tirthan valley. Under the naming convention the growing area takes the bare name and the pass keeps Jalori Pass.
- Ruling. The title was recommended as option A on 2026-09-28 (package README, Stage 1). The user's reply, "Keep going onto stage two", was read as acceptance. Page titles are Éloïse's call; a different title is a move with this Talk page.
- Other names in use. The Zomia Collective's regional index has an entry "Jibhi Pass". No gazetteer, map or census read for this page gives a pass that name. The article does not adopt it. Modern press and ethnobotany use "Outer Seraj" for the south side and "Inner Seraj" for the north.
Identifications
- Mahoot. The listing places the village "near to the Jalori pass" and gives its "[a]verage altitude" as "3000 above sea level". OpenStreetMap has a hamlet "Mahut" (node 8626190301, 31.5031 N 77.4240 E), 6.2 km south-east of the pass, which Nominatim places in Ani tehsil. The spelling fits the listing's "Mahout" and the distance fits "near to". The height does not: SRTM gives about 2,420 m at that point. The identification is not made on the article or on the accession page.
admin_3stays empty. - "Khnag". Bhardwaj, Rani and Rana (2014) list a locality "Khnag". The 1917 gazetteer spells the rest-house below the pass "Khanag" and, once, "Khang". The article quotes the paper's spelling and does not equate them.
- "Seoraj". Anderson's report of 1880 writes "Seoraj" and "Seorajis". The article quotes the spelling as printed. It is read here as the Saraj of the gazetteers; the Himachal links master rows "Outer Saraj / Seoraj" as variants.
- Ghiaghi. The 2011 Census spells the village "Ghiaghi (10/30)", in Banjar sub-district. The medicinal-plant survey writes "Ghyagi" and "Gayagi"; OpenStreetMap has "Giyagi". The article uses the census spelling.
Source notes
- Elevation. The infobox gives 3,000 m, the one accession's stated altitude, on the family's collection-range basis (ruling D11 for Parvati Valley and Malana Valley). The medicinal-plant survey records the plant between 1,500 and 3,000 m on the north side.
- Rainfall. The infobox's 1,103 mm is the survey's figure for a single year, 2007, in its study area in the valley of the Jibhi Gad.
- Anderson's acreage. The same page of Anderson's report (IHDC Vol. V, p. 379) gives hemp cultivation as "72 acres, viz., 33 acres in Kulu, and 39 acres in Plach". It gives spontaneous growth as 94 acres in the Kulu tahsil and 110 in the "Plach Naib Tahsildari". The 1917 gazetteer places Plach in Inner Saraj. No source read for this page says that the Plach naib-tahsil of 1880 was the Saraj tahsil, so the figures are not on the article. A reading of Lyall (1874) or of the administrative chapter of the 1897 gazetteer could settle it.
- Enforcement place names. The reports cited name "Banjar" and "Anni" as areas without saying which parts. The article reports the names as given.
