Evidentiary scope

The labels place the plant on a road side south of Yülin city in July 1933. They give no use. The plant grew outside cultivation. The accession is classified Feral, by inference from the label; the label does not say whether the plants descended from a crop. A single gathering does not establish a continuing population, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (PE 00557955, 1,027 × 1,440 pixels).

  • Field form (printed INSTITUTE OF BOTANY / NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PEIPING / FLORA OF CHINA, typed in blue): Field No. H. 3662 / Date July 16, 1933 / Locality South of Yülin city, Shensi / Altitude 1035m. / Habitat road side / Collector W.Y.Hsia.
  • Herbarium label (HERBARIUM ACADEMIÆ NATIONALIS PEKINENSIS / FLORA CHINENSIS, typed): Cannabis sativa Linn. / Shensi: South of Yülin city July 16, 1933 / Leg. W.Y.Hsia (3662). Det. W.Y.Hsia.
  • Tags. Two printed tags W. Y. Hsia, with 3662 and 3.662 in pencil. SHENSI province stamp; Hg Cl2; herbarium stamp of the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences; stamped number 421624.

The two readings agree; one marks the letter before the number uncertain (H or W).

  • Yangling sheet (WUK0001290), read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image (WUK0001290, 990 × 1,440 pixels). Typed form (INSTITUTE OF BOTANY / NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PEIPING / FLORA OF CHINA): Field No. H. 3662 / Date July 16, 1933 / Locality South of Yülin city, Shensi / Altitude 1035m. / Habitat road side / Collector W.Y.Hsia (faint). Label of the Herbarium Academiae Nationalis Pekinensis: Shensi: South of Yülin city / July 16, 1933 / Leg. W.Y.Hsia (3662). Det. W.Y.Hsia. Tag: W.Y. Hsia / 3662. Stamps: Hg Cl₂ and the stamped sheet number; 標本已錄 (specimen recorded); the round herbarium stamp of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中國科學院 植物標本章). The readings agree.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The labels place the plant south of Yülin city (榆林, Yulin, Wikidata Q515712), a direction with no distance: the city is known, but not how far south of it the road ran. SRTM gives 1,055 m at Wikidata's point for the city against the label's 1,035 m, which fits low ground near the city but fixes no place on it. The province field takes Shaanxi.

Editorial treatment

Collector. The collector field keeps the label's W. Y. Hsia. He is Hsia Wei-ying (夏纬瑛, 1896–1987), who collected in Shansi, Chahar, Suiyuan, Hopei and Chinghai (Harvard botanist index). The prose links Hsia Wei-ying.

Elevation. The elevation field stores the label's 1,035 m.

Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.

Two sheets, one accession. The Beijing and Yangling sheets share every element of the form and label. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so its sheets are cited here and not shown.

Source discrepancies

  • The Chinese Virtual Herbarium lists the Yangling sheet twice, under two record numbers with the same image (WUK0001290 also as record be20f42d); the page cites the record that carries the sheet's barcode.

Source citations remain in the article. Éloise 22:17, 13 October 2026 (+07)
