Page scope
Hippie Cannabis Genetics is an Organisation, a prose entity page. It documents the business, what it says about its seed lines and what growers have reported about them. Lines held as seed are documented as Accessions, and the article lists them by query rather than by hand.
Sourcing
The article rests on the business's own descriptions of its lines on the seed database SeedFinder and on posts by members of the cannabis growers' forum Overgrow. Everything taken from the descriptions is the business's account and is attributed to it. Forum posts are attributed to their authors by username. Discuss attribution, independent sourcing and any claim that has migrated into the wiki's own voice here.
Discussion
Sources read
- SeedFinder, read on 8 October 2026: the breeder page for the business and all 12 of its strain pages. No other source read states the business's place or year of founding. The breeder page's homepage link leads to the Instagram account.
- The business's Linktree page (linktr.ee/hippiecannabisgenetics), read on 8 October 2026. It links the Instagram account and a Facebook page.
- hippiecannabisgenetics.com: the domain was registered on 20 January 2020. Wayback Machine captures of December 2021, April 2024 and July 2025 and the live address were read on 8 October 2026; none holds any text about the business. The 2021 capture is a page that needs JavaScript to show anything, and from 2024 the address redirects to a parking page. In December 2022 an Overgrow member called the site "pretty bare" (Overgrow, 30 December 2022).
- Overgrow, read through its public interface on 8 October 2026: site searches for the business's name, its Instagram handle, "HCG landrace" and "kalamata red"; a user search, which found no account belonging to the business; three threads in full (the 1973 Durban grow log, a Pakistani Chitral Kush seed run and an auction thread of 2026); and 30 single posts found by the searches.
- THCFarmer has a breeder profile for the business, built by the site from user listings, with no links and nothing that could be cited.
- Instagram and Facebook could not be read: both are behind a login, and the Wayback Machine holds only redirects for the Instagram account. The article uses neither.
- ICMag, Reddit and Rollitup could not be read directly. Web searches returned no page on any of them that mentions the business.
- Web searches for the business's name, with and without its line names, found no news report, scholarly mention or trade-press profile. Strain-guide pages on JointCommerce and StrainCompass are generated text or aggregated listings and are not used.
Name and accounts
- The business calls itself Hippie Cannabis Genetics and HCG on SeedFinder, and Hippie Cannabis Genetics on its Linktree page. Forum posts spell the Instagram handle hippie.cannabis.genetics or hippie_cannabis_genetics.
- The Facebook page linked from the Linktree page has an address under the name Hippie Canna Genetics. The Linktree link is what ties that page to the business; the page itself could not be read.
- The Linktree account was created in July 2023, according to the data in its page.
- The infobox's website field links the Instagram account, because the domain holds no content and the homepage link on SeedFinder leads to that account.
When the business began
- SeedFinder: "Created in Flint, Michigan in 2018." No other source read gives a founding year. The infobox marks the year and the place as the business's own account.
- In February 2022 an Overgrow member offered "Pakistani Chitral Kush seeds from 2016 or 17 from Hippie Cannabis Genetics" (Overgrow, 27 February 2022). This is one buyer's recollection, and it does not say whether the years are when the seed was made or when it was bought, so it is not used in the article.
- The website's domain dates from January 2020.
The Punto Rojo credit
- HCG's description of its Colombian "Incense" Punto Rojo credits the seed to Lugo Mez and the Zomia Collective and calls it "1st generation from point of origin". The article gives the credit in HCG's words and attributes it to HCG.
- The wiki holds two accessions of Punto Rojo from near Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia, collected in January 2024: ZOM-COL-QUIN-0120240001 and ZOM-COL-QUIN-0120240002. HCG's line is documented as HCG-COL-QUIN-0120240001, a reproduction of the first. The basis is HCG's credit, above, together with the records of the Zomia Collective, which holds the collection and records HCG's line as grown from ZOM-COL-QUIN-0120240001. No source connects HCG's line to ZOM-COL-QUIN-0120240002, which is not its parent. The article links the accession and gives the link as the Zomia Collective's record, not in its own voice.
- In February 2025 an Overgrow member guessed that seed labelled "Panama Red '71 reproduction", obtained in a trade of Zomia Collective material, was HCG's line. The post gives no evidence for the guess, which is not used.
The 1973 Durban
- HCG's description says the line was collected in 1973. In December 2021 the member growing it for seed reported that the seed was not itself from the 1970s but from a reproduction run. The two statements need not conflict, and the article gives both.
- The thread shows who "the breeder" is: the member asked how to find the business's Instagram account, another member supplied the link, and the member then wrote to that account before reporting the breeder's account of the line's origin.
- In the same thread in December 2021, another member said that the plants on the business's Instagram page looked like sativas but poor ones. This is one member's opinion of photographs, and it is not used.
Kalamata Red
- No source for the business's Kalamata Red stock was found. In December 2022 an Overgrow member asked where the business had obtained it; the business's description names no source. The article gives only the business's own description of the line.
Material left out
- Nothing about the person who runs the business is used: no name, no residence and no forum remarks about them.
- Effect and medical claims in the business's descriptions are not reproduced.
- A forum remark in 2022 that the Kalamata Red was "supposedly 7th rarest cultivar out there according to some website" is not used, because it cites no source.
- The auction thread of July 2026 raised money for a grower in South Africa; that background has no bearing on the business and is not used.
- Generated strain-guide pages and aggregator profiles are not used.
Accessions
- Eleven of the business's twelve lines on SeedFinder are documented as accessions, which the article lists by query. The Golden Haze is not: HCG says it bred it from a "1969 Acapulco Gold" and its 1970 Colombian Gold, so it is a cross made by the business, not stock from a source population.
- The identifier year of each accession is the year of the first dated mention of the line that was found, not a collection year. The years in the names of the 1970 Colombian Gold, the 1971 Panama Red and the 1973 Durban are HCG's own and are recorded as its claims on each accession's talk page.
- In 2021 and 2022 the Overgrow member TestOfOath named a Highland Nepalese among the lines "from Hippie Cannabis Genetics" (Overgrow, 19 October 2021; Overgrow, 5 January 2022). No listing of a Nepalese line by the business was found, so it has no accession.
Title
Hippie Cannabis Genetics is the name the business uses on SeedFinder and on its Linktree page. No redirect was made for HCG, which is ambiguous, or for Hippie Canna Genetics, which appears only in a Facebook address.
