Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The page records the type of the name, not a population. The sheet has no recorded collector, place or date, and its provenance is known only from Linnaeus's possession of it by 1753. It does not document a landrace. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Not read. The Typification Project's record links an image of the sheet on the Linnean Society's image server (linnean-online.org), which could not be reached from this workstation (the connection failed at the TLS handshake); its licence was not read and nothing is uploaded.

Georeferencing

No point is given. No place is recorded for the sheet; the protologue's Habitat in India is the species' stated range, and McPartland and Small's Uppsala is their inference.

Editorial treatment

Title. The sheet has no collector and no date, so the title takes the herbarium's own citation, Herb. Linn. 1177.2, and (by 1753): it was in Linnaeus's possession when he published the name.

Country. The country field is left empty: the sheet's place of origin is not recorded.

Two lectotypes in the literature. IPNI and the Typification Project both give Villiers's 1973 choice, Herb. Linn. 1177.2, as the lectotype and record Stearn's 1974 Clifford choice as later. Stearn's paper and Villiers's Flore du Gabon were not read for this page; the page follows the two databases.

Repository. McPartland and Small gloss the herbarium code LINN as Linnaeus, London (supplementary material, p. 12). The Linnaean herbarium is the Linnean Society of London's, and the repository field takes the Society's name.
