Identifier

The accession identifier is EAG-KEN-UNK-0120200001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment EAG stands for East Africa Genes.
  • Year 2020 is the year of the first dated document that lists the line: the catalogue capture of 30 October 2020. No source gives a collection year, so the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and the collection date field is empty.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
  • Province segment. "Kambi" could not be placed in a county (see Georeferencing), so the province field is empty and the segment is UNK.
  • Sequence 0001. First Kenyan line without a county in 2020.

Sourcing

The catalogue page Pure African Strains (https://eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/) was read as it stood on 8 October 2026 and in twelve archived captures from 7 August 2020 to 4 June 2023 (https://web.archive.org/web/*/eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/). No capture between June 2023 and the current page could be read. The line first appears in the capture of 30 October 2020 and is on the current page. The seller promised a buyer Kambi seed in December 2023 (https://overgrow.com/t/east-africa-genes-the-authentic-supplier-of-landrace-strains-from-east-african-countries/122685/39), and in November 2023 a forum member posted a photograph of plants and wrote that the Kambi looked sweet (same topic, post 29).

No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named.

Typing

  • Classification: Other. East Africa Genes' description of its lines as landrace sativas is its own claim and is attributed in the article; a seller's listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. No source gives a chain of custody from a growing population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty: the sources do not say whether the seed on sale was gathered from growers or reproduced from earlier seed.
  • Traits. The flavours and effects in the article are the seller's words. The catalogue's "Vegetation & Flowering" figure counts vegetative growth and flowering together, so it is reported in the article and not entered as a flowering time.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The name does not resolve: OpenStreetMap has no settlement named Kambi in Kenya, and the only object of that exact name is a bus stop in Nairobi. Nine settlements have names that begin with Kambi (Kambi ya Munyu, Kambi Moto, Kambi Mpya, Kambi Nyasi, Kambi Nyoka, Kambi Muru, Kambi-kidi, Kambi-Mwanza), in Makueni, Turkana, Baringo, Marsabit, Nairobi, Kisumu and Kakamega counties. Two of them, Kambi ya Munyu in Makueni and Kambi Nyoka in Marsabit, lie in the east of the country, but neither is called Kambi, and nothing the seller says picks one out.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The sources give nothing about the size or status of the source population.
