Evidentiary scope
The label places cannabis in Eastern China in 1910 and gives nothing more. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from Edinburgh's IIIF image (4096 pixels high).
- Label (handwritten on the printed heading HERB. HORT. REG. BOT. EDIN.): 75. Cannabis sativa Linn. / PLANTS of EASTERN CHINA, Coll. I. B. BALFOUR, 1910.
- A second photograph. The image Edinburgh serves for its barcode E01459304 (GBIF occurrence 4907010162) shows this sheet, with the barcode label E01459305 in the frame. The file and the framing differ slightly, so it is a second photograph of the same sheet: either the sheet numbered E01459304 has not been imaged, or the barcode was assigned in error. The page cites E01459305 only.
Georeferencing
No coordinate is asserted and the province field is empty: the label names no province.
Editorial treatment
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's I. B. Balfour. The Harvard botanist index has Sir Isaac Bayley Balfour (1853–1922), whose collector note lists E. China without a year, but no source read records a visit by him to China in 1910. The name is not expanded or linked.
Source discrepancies
- Edinburgh's catalogue gives no collector, place, date or country for the sheet (filed Inner China, Korea and Taiwan). Everything on this page beyond the plant's name comes from the label.
- Edinburgh publishes a second record, E01459304, whose image is a second photograph of this sheet.
