Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The sheet documents a Cannabis specimen named Bangue in the Edinburgh University Herbarium. It gives no place, date, collector, habitat or use. The country is Edinburgh's catalogue's, not the label's. The accession is classified Other and carries no conservation priority.
Label reading
Read from the Edinburgh image (E00248601, 2872 × 4096 pixels).
- Label, foot: Cannabineae (uncertain) / Cannabis / sativa / Bangue.
- Stamps: Edinburgh University Herbarium, top, faint; a second impression near the foot that cannot be read.
Georeferencing
No place is asserted. The country field takes India from Edinburgh's catalogue; nothing on the sheet names a country. Bangue is a name for the plant or the drug, not a place.
Editorial treatment
The title takes the Anon. s.n. form, because nothing on the sheet names a collector, with the catalogue's country in the place position. Nothing on the sheet dates it, so the title says (undated) instead of a year. The University herbarium's transfer to the garden in 1872 is reported in the article, but it is not used as a date for the sheet, because the stamp does not say when the sheet entered that herbarium.
The label's Bangue is entered as the local name, as written.
Source discrepancies
- Country. Edinburgh's catalogue and GBIF give India. The sheet names no country. The infobox follows the catalogue, because the sheet gives no country of its own.
