Evidentiary scope

The slip places the plant in Heng County, Guangxi. It gives no habitat, use or note on cultivation, and no year that can be fixed. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (PE 00578066, 1,102 × 1,440 pixels).

• Slip (handwritten): No. / 桑科 / 1813 / Cannabis sativa, L. / 大麻 / 廣西橫縣 / 31/5/8. The lower halves of the place characters are cut off by the image edge; the third character was read once as 橫 and once as 橫 or 揖, and the place is read as 廣西橫縣. A faint number in pencil over the slip repeats 1813 (read once as 1813 and once as 413).
• Stamps. 中國科學院植物研究所標本室 (Herbarium, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences), with the stamped number 361089.

Georeferencing

Heng County (橫縣) is today's Hengzhou, a county-level city of Nanning, Guangxi, which took that name in 2021 (Wikidata Q1355002); no other Heng County lies in Guangxi. The point 22.77, 109.16 is the middle of Hengzhou's administrative area in OpenStreetMap (relation 2775762, about 3,453 km²), checked to fall inside it. It is an area point for the county, not the place the plant was gathered, and the county's present area is taken for the one the slip names. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 34 km.

Editorial treatment

Date. 31/5/8 gives no century or era. Read as a year of the Republic (民國), it is 8 May 1942; read as a Western date it could be 8 May 1931 or 31 May 1908. No date is stored, and the title takes s.d.

Title. No collector is named, so the title takes Anon. and the slip's number.

Source discrepancies

• The catalogue dates the sheet 1919; no 1919 appears on the sheet, whose slip reads 31/5/8.
