How the volume was read

The volume was read on 3 October 2026 in a digitised copy. Its OCR text layer is of uneven quality, so every figure and quotation on the page was read on the page images. Each report in the volume is paginated separately, so a page number alone is ambiguous; the page's citations name the report ("Council's report, p. 7"; "Dewan's report, p. 20").

Readings that need care

In the Dewan's excise table the licence fees of ganja shops for 1892–93 look like "12,282" in the scan, where the type of the 3 is worn. The figure is 12,232-1-3: the increase printed beside it (Rs. 1,470-8-9) and the column total (Rs. 72,426-7-0) both require it. The increase in duty on ganja in the same table looks like "8,962" and is Rs. 3,962-12-6, as the Dewan's paragraph 96 gives it.

The State Council's report models a notification on "section 17A of Act VII of 1878 (B.C.)". The volume for 1891–92 invests the police under "the Excise Act (Act VIII B. C. of 1878)", a different number. Neither volume expands "B. C."; each page quotes its form as printed.

The State Council's report writes "Gunja", the Dewan's report "Ganja". Quotations keep the spelling of the passage quoted.

What the page leaves out

The excise figures for country spirit, imported liquor and opium are left out; the page gives the total of excise collections. The volume's other reports are not summarised.
