An ethnopharmacological assessment of medicinal plants in Malanje Municipality, Angola
Frontiers in Pharmacology
Builds an ethnopharmacological baseline for Malanje Municipality in north-central Angola from interviews with 20 traditional healers between 2018 and 2023, recording 272 ethnospecies, 78 of them identified to species. Cannabis sativa, called liamba (a Portuguese name), is an introduced herb of cropland in the inventory; a leaf decoction is given orally, rectally or sublingually for conditions including psychosis, asthma, cough, bronchitis, nausea, vomiting, measles and tuberculosis. It is a dated field attestation of the name liamba in Angola.
