Whole-genome sequencing and SNP analysis of Thai Cannabis sativa cultivar 'Hang Kra Rog Phu Phan' (Cannabaceae)
Biodiversitas Journal of Biological Diversity · 2025
Reports whole-genome sequencing of 'Hang Kra Rog Phu Phan', a Thai cultivar the authors describe as indigenous and recognised for high THC content, from fresh leaf collected at a licensed cultivation site. Illumina sequencing gave 63.8 million raw reads and an average depth of 11.39x against the 'Pink Pepper' reference, with 18.5 million SNPs and 4.5 million InDels called. Phylogenetic and principal component analyses placed the cultivar unexpectedly close to the CBD-dominant 'CBD Shark', which the authors take to show a distinct lineage among high-THC cultivars. The authors present it as the first genomic characterisation of this cultivar.
