Suwon District Court sentences a Kudokai member to ten years over 636 kg of cannabis shipped from Thailand in March 2026
The Chosun Ilbo reported that on 8 October 2026 the 13th Criminal Division of Suwon District Court sentenced a 53-year-old member of the Japanese yakuza group Kudokai, of Korean descent, to ten years in prison and confiscation of the seized drugs for smuggling about 636 kg of cannabis into South Korea. According to the report, he had conspired with members of a Vietnamese drug-selling organisation to load the cannabis onto a container ship leaving Laem Chabang Port in Thailand in early March 2026, and it arrived at Incheon Port on 23 March. The prosecutor had asked for 20 years. The court rejected the defence's argument that the case rested on entrapment.
