Barshore district administration orders FIRs and destruction of illegal opium and cannabis crops

The Daily Independent reported that the Deputy Commissioner of Barshore, Flight Lieutenant (Retd) Khalid Shams, directed authorities to register FIRs against those involved in illegal opium and cannabis cultivation and to destroy prohibited crops found in the district. The directive was issued at a meeting of the District Intelligence Coordination Committee on 22 September 2026, attended by senior officers of the Pakistan Army, the police, other law enforcement agencies and intelligence institutions, which also reviewed security and border matters. According to the report the committee decided to intensify action against illegal cultivation, and the Deputy Commissioner instructed agencies to identify illegal plantations, destroy the crops and begin legal proceedings. The report gives no area, no quantity and no date for any destruction, and describes no operation as having been carried out.
