Drug Enforcement Commission reports seizing 175 kg of cannabis brought from Malawi through Lumezi
Zambia's Drug Enforcement Commission announced on 21 September 2026 that it had arrested and jointly charged two people over 175 kilograms of dry loose cannabis moved from Malawi into Zambia. The commission's public relations officer, Allan Tamba, said the consignment had been concealed in sack bags and a laptop bag and transported through Lumezi District in Eastern Province, and identified those charged as a 39-year-old Malawian national and a 53-year-old Zambian national, both of whom he said had been on the commission's watch list for transnational organised drug trafficking. Tamba said the drugs had been seized and the two were in custody awaiting a court appearance, and described the arrests as a milestone in the commission's Operation Kufeza. The statement gives the date of the announcement only, not of the arrest, and does not say where in Zambia the two were detained.
