Interior Ministry reports 217,608 cannabis plants destroyed across 99 sites in Diyarbakır
The Turkish Ministry of Interior announced on 21 September 2026 that 217,608 cannabis and skunk plants had been destroyed across 99 illegal cultivation areas in the Lice and Kulp districts of Diyarbakır province. The ministry said the operations were carried out by the narcotics branch of the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command together with the Gendarmerie General Command's anti-narcotics department and the Lice and Kulp chief public prosecutors' offices, under the government's action plan against illegal cannabis cultivation, using 64 teams and 570 personnel supported by remote sensing systems. The ministry stated that 15 kilograms of processed cannabis was also seized, and that the destroyed plants could have yielded about five tonnes of powdered cannabis. The announcement does not state the period over which the 99 sites were worked, and gives no figure for arrests or for the area involved.
