Police Narcotics Bureau arrests three Thai women at Bandaranaike airport with kush and hashish

Ada Derana and Newswire reported that Sri Lanka's Police Narcotics Bureau arrested three Thai women at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, in the early hours of 20 September 2026, in two separate operations at the arrival terminal after the women arrived from Bangkok. A 38-year-old was reported to have been carrying 3 kg 220 g of kush and 1 kg 852 g of hashish, and a 31-year-old 1 kg 994 g of kush and 620 g of hashish, while a 36-year-old who travelled on the same flight was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting the second woman, giving a combined 5 kg 214 g of kush and 2 kg 472 g of hashish. Sri Lanka Mirror reported that the consignment was concealed in airtight packages disguised as bottles of nutritional supplements and collagen and as bars of soap, put its value at 85 million rupees, and said the three were due before the Negombo Magistrate's Court the same day. Newswire reported that the bureau was still establishing whether the two operations were connected.
