Customs arrest a passenger at Bandaranaike International Airport with 668 g of kush cannabis from Bangkok

Ada Derana reported that Sri Lanka Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport arrested a businessman of 44 from Weligama in Matara as he attempted to leave through the red channel on 12 September 2026, having arrived on a flight from Bangkok. Customs said he had concealed about 668 grammes of kush cannabis in three packets in the side pockets of his trousers, and put the value of the consignment at about 6.68 million rupees. The suspect and the drugs were handed to the Police Narcotics Bureau at the airport for further investigation. The case is the third cannabis interception reported at the airport on the Bangkok route within a week.
