Ada Derana reported that officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau arrested two Sri Lankan women, aged 33 and 35 and both resident in Colombo, at Bandaranaike International Airport on 9 September 2026 over an alleged attempt to bring in a consignment described as Kush cannabis. According to the report the two arrived at about 10.55 am on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 403 from Bangkok, and approximately 5.372 kg was found in five airtight packages inside two pieces of luggage, with a street value put at 53.72 million rupees. The two were due to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court the same day.
