Navy intercepts 71 kg of cannabis on the River Niger at Bassa in Kogi
The Nigerian Navy said that personnel of the naval ship Lugard, acting on intelligence, intercepted a wooden commercial boat near the Chintako community jetty in Bassa local government area of Kogi State on 8 September 2026 and recovered 71 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis packed in three sacks and concealed in the vessel's rear compartment. Three men were arrested and handed to the Kogi State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on 9 September. The director of naval information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation reflected intelligence driven patrolling of inland waterways. No source or destination for the consignment was disclosed, and the drug agency said it would investigate ownership.
