NDLEA intercepts a fuel tanker carrying 2,145 kg of cannabis on the Akoko to Lokoja expressway in Ondo
Channels Television reported that officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency intercepted a 20,000-litre fuel tanker fitted with a concealed compartment on the Akoko to Lokoja expressway in Ondo State on 4 September 2026, after its driver did not stop when flagged down. According to the agency the driver abandoned the vehicle at a church in Ugbe Akoko and fled into bush, and a search of the tanker uncovered a false compartment holding 165 bags of cannabis weighing 2,145 kg alongside a fuel cargo said to be bound for Jos in Plateau State. The agency's director of media and publicity, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on 6 September that the tanker had previously evaded arrest. The report places the seizure among operations across nine states that also recovered tramadol, methamphetamine and codeine.
