Hong Kong Customs arrested a 46-year-old male mainland Chinese passenger at Hong Kong International Airport on 6 August 2026 after finding about 6 kg of suspected cannabis buds packed in 20 bags in his carry-on suitcase. The man had arrived on a flight from Bangkok. Customs put the estimated market value at about HK$1.2 million. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug for appearance at Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on 8 August; trafficking carries a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
