Wang 234 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Peiping (Beijing), China, on 16 August 1935 by S. T. Wang. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds a sheet as PE 00777344, and Beijing Normal University a second as BNU 0036661.

Collection and locality

PE 00777344 carries a typed label of the herbarium of the Institute of Botany, National Academy of Peiping, headed Distributed from, its ribbon faint. It gives the locality Peiping, the collector S. T. Wang, the middle initial faint, the field number 234 and a date in August 1935, the day faint. BNU 0036661 carries the same label, its typing clear: Loc. Peiping, Coll. S.T.Wang, Field No. 234, Det. by H.W.Kung and Date Aug. 16,1935, with 大麻 (hemp) and the male sign added by hand. Neither sheet carries a field form or a tag. The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year and Beijing for both.

Specimen and identification

PE 00777344 carries one long stem with narrow leaflets and a leafy male flowering top, and BNU 0036661 a long leafy stem with a sparse male flowering top. The labels name the plant Cannabis sativa L., determined by H. W. Kung, whose name is faint on the first and clear on the second.
