This template renders the infobox for population pages and stores the population's values in Semantic MediaWiki. The work is done by Module:Population, which also holds the item list, the floors and the bands.
A population is every field and feral stand that passes seed or pollen between them often enough to count as one pool. Fields and stands within 5 km of each other, with no main ridge between them, belong to one population, and the links chain; seed swapping that growers report joins places further apart. Village boundaries do not decide it.

Every parameter is optional. Empty means not known: no parameter has a default that stands in for a missing value.

The map point is never typed. It is the centroid of the member fields' stored points, or, where no field has one, the appellation's point. It is stored as Has coordinates, and the infobox says which of the two it is.

Each scored item is stored as a subobject (field-item-<code>) carrying its code, score, basis, source, year and item set.
The module works the grade out from the scored items:
- the score is the sum of the scored items divided by five times the number scored, as a percentage;
- the bands are Very high (over 80%), High (65–80%), Moderate (50–64%), Low (35–49%), Very low (20–34%), Near threatened (10–19%) and Least concern (under 10%);
- with fewer than 16 of 23 items scored (9 of 13 for the feral set) the grade is Data deficient;
- the grade lapses to Data deficient ten years after its evidence year, and the infobox shows the band it last had;
- with no evidence year at all the grade is Data deficient.
It stores Has field grade, Has field grade items scored, Has field grade score (only when a band is reached) and Has method version.

These take numbered groups, from 1 upwards. Each group is stored as its own subobject.

No outline of a field or stand is stored: an outline is finer than the 500 m to which collection points are obfuscated.
Holdings
The infobox also reads every seed lot recorded for the population through Module:Grow-out priority and shows the holdings reading: Urgent, At risk, Data deficient or Secure, with the number of verified copies, the collections they come from and whether they are kept in separate places. It stores Has holdings step, Has live verified copy and three ranks for sorting: Has holdings rank, Has field grade rank and Has best lot rank. A population with no seed lot recorded reads Urgent (no verified copy held), as the method computes it, and the infobox adds that no seed lots are recorded on the wiki yet.

Errors
A value outside a parameter's allowed list is not stored, and the infobox prints a red error line naming it.
