Evidentiary scope
A narrow label at the foot of the sheet reads, in pencil, Cannabis sativa, L and, in red ink below that, Mr Woodrow Poona. The red line is the only source for the place and the collector. There is no date, no altitude, no habitat, no use and no local name. The specimen is a whole plant with its root, pressed entire, with five dense female heads. The sheet says nothing about where the plant grew, so nothing shows whether it was cultivated, grew wild or had escaped. The accession is classified Unknown, and no conservation priority is assigned. It documents Cannabis at Poona in Woodrow's hands.
Georeferencing
Poona is present-day Pune, in Pune district, Maharashtra. The label names the town and no site within it, so no elevation is asserted and the coordinate is Pune's own point in OpenStreetMap (node 16174445), 18.52, 73.85, used as a locality georeference rather than as a reconstructed collection point.
The coordinate georeferences the place the label names, at two decimal places, with the mapped object named above. The Pune Municipal Corporation covers 516.18 km² (English Wikipedia, Pune), a circle about 12.8 km in radius. The town of Woodrow's day was smaller, but its edge is not mapped, so the uncertainty takes today's city, with 1 km added for the rounding of the point. An earlier version of this note put it at about 5 km. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 14 km. Éloise 06:11, 18 September 2026 (+07)
Editorial treatment
The label carries no gathering date, so the title takes the (by <year>) form with the collector's death year as the limit. George Marshall Woodrow lived from 1846 to 1911 (IPNI 14901-1). The Harvard index of botanists gives the same dates. The collection date field is left empty.
The red-ink line Mr Woodrow Poona is in a different hand from the pencilled name above it. It reads as a note made by whoever received or mounted the sheet, not as Woodrow's own label. It is the whole of the provenance. The catalogue's Woodrow, G. M. rests on the same line.
The title keeps the label's Poona; the fields use the present-day Pune, as Fleming s.n., Simla (1849) does for Simla and Shimla.
