Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label places cannabis around Khost in May 1971. It names no habitat, use or local name, so the accession is classified Other. A single sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. No conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
No image of the sheet is published: JACQ's image service has none for it, and GBIF lists no media. The label has therefore not been read here. The article quotes Vienna's own transcription of it, the catalogue's Label field, and says so.
Georeferencing
The coordinate is Khost (GeoNames 1136469, 33.339512, 69.92041), stored as 33.34, 69.92. The SRTM 30-metre elevation at the stored point is 1,182 metres, against the label's 1,170 metres. The label names the town's surroundings, so the point stands for the town, not a collection point within it.
Editorial treatment
The title keeps the collector's number as the catalogue writes it, 71/151. The province field takes Khost Province; the label's Prov. Paktia is the province of 1971. Volk's 1950 gathering at Khost, Volk 1068, is also at Vienna. The collector's full name in the article is the person Vienna's catalogue links the collector to (Wikidata Q19355834, Otto Heinrich Volk).
The sheet was sampled in 2018 for Christopher J. Grassa's herbarium-genomics project; the catalogue's note reads Leaf tissue removed for DNA for C.F. Grassa 2018. None of the 1,444 public BioSamples of Cannabis sativa whose voucher field names a herbarium sheet (NCBI, read in early October 2026) names this sheet's catalogue number, so no sequence data is listed in the infobox.
