Discussion

Why the area is on the map

  • No source read uses "Tripura Hills" as the name of a cannabis-growing tract. The area takes the state's hills as a whole, because the sources report cultivation district by district across most of the state:
    • Statewide. The written reply to the assembly (Tripurainfo, 17 March 2026): 793 drives, 5,24,25,791 plants and 12,479.98 ha destroyed in three years, with Sepahijala the district with the largest area. The Narcotics Control Bureau's annual reports for 2016 and 2017 name Tripura for "illicit cultivation and wild growth of Cannabis in hilly and remote areas".
    • Sepahijala, West Tripura and South Tripura: set out on the three appellation pages and their Talk pages.
    • Khowai. South Ghilatali nurseries (Tripura Times, 25 July 2025); Melkabari (November 2025; the original report is no longer online, and the news item rests on its record).
    • Unakoti. Ramdula para, Pecharthal (NE Now, 18 December 2023); Machmara tea garden (The Sentinel, 27 December 2025).
    • North Tripura. Katuacharra, Churaibari (Tripura Times, 2 November 2025).
  • No cultivation report was found for Dhalai or Gomati districts. Dhalai's two news items are seizures of dry ganja on the road. Both districts are in the area because they belong to the same hill ranges.

How the border is drawn

  • The border is a proxy: the state of Tripura, from its OpenStreetMap administrative relation (2026458). The outline measures about 10,400 km², the figure in the infobox; Encyclopædia Britannica gives the state's area as 10,486 km².
  • The three appellations keep the borders they had as growing areas: Sepahijala is drawn on the Sonamura and Bishalgarh subdivisions, West Tripura and South Tripura on their districts.
  • No appellations are drawn for Khowai, Unakoti, North Tripura, Dhalai or Gomati: their reports are one or two drives each, or seizures only.

Growing status

The status is Active: cannabis is reported destroyed in the state in every year from 2023 to 2026, and in Sepahijala since 2018. No source read says that growing has ended.
