Kew's catalogue names the object Ropes and files it under the plant name 153.04 CANNABACEAE Cannabis sativa. The word hemp does not appear in the entry. Kew's help page says the collection classifies its specimens by plant family and genus; this one is classified under Cannabis. The ropes are an object made from cannabis, and the plant name carries no hedge, so the attribution is Stated. The infobox quotes the plant name, the only wording in the entry that names the plant.
Evidentiary scope
The entry gives Safranbolu as the place, a collector who obtained the ropes in 1998 and a donor, and no maker, no date of making and no use. It documents rope of cannabis fibre from Safranbolu, obtained by its collector in 1998; it does not say who made the ropes, what they were used for, or where their fibre was grown. It documents no plant, population or living holding, and landrace, feral and conservation fields do not apply to an artefact.
Kew publishes no image of this object, and GBIF carries none.
Editorial treatment
The collection date is not the date of making. Kew's collection date, 1998, is when the collector obtained the ropes: its help page defines the collector as the person who first obtained a specimen. The date made is left empty. The catalogue gives no entry book number, so the date acquired, 2006, comes from the donor date, 00/05/2006.
One number, more than one rope. Kew names the object in the plural. The catalogue does not say how many ropes the number covers; the page treats them as one catalogued object, as Kew does.
Place as recorded. The field quotes the geography line, Safranbolu, Turkey; the country field gives Turkey.
Names. The field collector gives M. Nesbitt, Kew's Nesbitt M in initials form, and the acquired-from field Mark Nesbitt, as the donor field gives it. Neither is further identified.
No use is recorded. Kew's use field is empty and its user Not defined, so the page gives no use for the ropes.
No culture is entered. Kew's catalogue has no culture field and names no people as makers or users.
