Identifier

The accession identifier is RSC-LAO-VIE-0120240001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Province segment VIE is for Vientiane Province, which the listing names, as on RSC-LAO-VIE-0120220001.
  • Year 2024 is the year in the sourcing line. The month digits are 01 because no month is given.
  • Sequence 0001. It is the only RSC accession for this province segment and year.

Sourcing

The RSC listing for Mekong #2 as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its nine versions in the Wayback Machine from October 2023 to June 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and the GRIN-Global entries for G 34112 and G 33880. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).

Lots at this listing

The listing's address has carried two lots.

  • From October 2023 to October 2024 (four versions) it was titled Mekong and gave the sourcing "The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia, 2023". Its description was the same as today's except for one sentence on the plants.
  • From February 2025 (five versions) it is titled Mekong #2 and gives the 2024 sourcing.

This page is the 2024 lot. The 2023 lot, sold as Mekong, is RSC-LAO-VIE-0120230001, linked as related. The USDA's Mekong lot, G 33880, received on 25 July 2024 while the 2023 lot was on sale, with no narrative beyond "Collected by Angus Pretty", is listed there as the same lot; the donor's note on G 34112 asks that the two be treated as "totally distinct".

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace, sourcing type Point of Origin, autochtonous Yes: the listing describes seed obtained from a household that grows the crop each year.
  • Ethnic group. Lao people, from the listing's "a Lao village household".
  • Growing region and area. Central Laos from the listing's "Central Laos", and Vientiane for Vientiane Province, as on RSC-LAO-VIE-0120220001.
  • Collector. Angus, as on the other accessions whose sourcing line reads "The Real Seed Company".
  • Growth pattern is left empty: the listing describes "Sativa-type architecture" and large, tall plants, which match none of the infobox's values (conical, columnar, bushy, candelabra, spreading, sprawling).
  • Seasons. The planting and harvest months are the listing's account of the crop in the region.
  • Seed viability is left empty: neither listing reports a test.
  • Conventions. Photoperiod Short-day and introgression Minimal follow the other RSC accessions; the listing states neither.

Georeferencing

No point is given. The listing names Vientiane Province and "a Lao village household" without naming the village, and the donor's note on G 34112 names the province only. The province covers about 12,600 km² (OpenStreetMap relation 5831667), so the finest place named is a province, which gives no point. The growing area entered, Vientiane, is drawn on the whole of Vientiane Province, so it names no smaller place.

Source discrepancies

  • Year. RSC: "2024". Kwik Seeds, under the title Mekong #2: "2023", the year of the earlier lot.
  • Plants. RSC: "Expect large, tall plants with classic, narrow-leafleted Sativa morphology". Kwik Seeds, and RSC until October 2024: "Expect large, narrow-leafleted classic Sativa morphology".

Photographs

None. The listing's only image is a photograph of seed that has been on it since October 2023, when the address sold the 2023 lot, so it cannot be tied to this lot.

USDA genebank accession

The U.S. National Plant Germplasm System holds Mekong #2 seed as G 34112 (GRIN-Global entry), received on 3 August 2026 in a donation from Angus. The infobox lists it as the same lot as this accession:

  • the entry is named Mekong #2, and the donor's note, "Collected in Vientiane Province, Laos - cultivated in home garden for ganja", matches the listing's province and household;
  • the listing has sold only the 2024 lot under that title, from February 2025 to the donation and after it.
