Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label says the plant was grown at the university's herbarium. A plant raised in a pot, planter or glasshouse at a university is not a crop of the place, so the accession is classified Other, by inference from the catalogue. No conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
The label was read from the Missouri Botanical Garden's image of the sheet (Tropicos 3096319), 480 × 640 pixels, on 2 November 2026:
- HERBARIO UNIVERSIDAD DEL VALLE / Cali, Colombia
- N.C. Cannabis sativa L. / N.V. Marihuana
- Planta de unos 80 a 90 cm de altura. / Planta altamente nociva para la salud.
- Cultivada en el Herbario de la Universidad del Valle.
- # 020; Det: Nestor Paz VI-24-/85; Col: Nestor Paz Fecha: 12-XII-/80
The typed lines can be read at this size, but there is no finer image to confirm them. The University of Valle's own herbarium (CUVC), whose label the sheet carries, publishes no Cannabis catalogue entry.
Georeferencing
The point 3.37, −76.53 is the Meléndez campus of the University of Valle in Cali, OpenStreetMap relation 6119670 (about 1.0 km², point 3.3740, −76.5333; Wikidata Q3117949, 3.3750, −76.5345). The label names the university's herbarium; that the herbarium stood on the Meléndez campus in 1980 is an inference, not stated by any source read. The campus reaches 0.82 km from the point, and with 1 km added for the two-decimal form the uncertainty is about 2 km. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 2 km.
Editorial treatment
Title. The title takes the number without its leading zero, as New York gives it (20); the collector-number field keeps the label's 020.
Holder. The infobox gives the Missouri sheet, which has an image; the New York sheet is a duplicate of the same number and date.
Image. Missouri Botanical Garden publishes the photograph under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0, the licence the file page carries.
