Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The object is processed fibre collected in 2022, a made material and not a plant. The tag and the catalogue place hemp fibre at Pà Cò in October and November 2022. They do not say where the plants were grown, who prepared the fibre, by what method, or for what use, so the page makes no statement about local cultivation or weaving. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read from the garden's photograph at the size it is published (557 × 640 pixels).

  • Tag (manila card tied to the neck of the jar with white string, handwritten): Hemp fibers / phloem / #06925. A small mark stands before phloem, a caret or a letter n; it is not read.
  • Strip inside the jar (white paper, handwritten): 06925, with a mark before the number that is not read.
  • Lid. Writing in black marker on the top of the lid; not legible at this size.

Georeferencing

The coordinate, 20.76, 104.89, is the catalogue's point rounded to two decimals: Tropicos gives 20.7559989, 104.8938088, and GBIF 20.755999, 104.893809. The elevation, 1,230 m, is the catalogue's. The point stands for the collection place the catalogue names, Pà Cò Commune in Mai Châu District.

The province field takes Phú Thọ Province. The catalogue's Hoa Binh is the province of 2022; Hòa Bình was merged into Phú Thọ in 2025. The locality field keeps the catalogue's commune and district.

Editorial treatment

Accession type. Prepared fibre is entered as an accession, like Kew's hemp fibres EBC 43415 (s.d.) and EBC 43416 (s.d.). The collection method takes Herbarium specimen, the nearest value the infobox offers; it has none for fibre or for ethnobotanical objects. The garden's own term for the object is ethnobotanical artifact.

Title. The title takes the collector's number with its part letter, 063d, the part the jar carries. The parts 063b and 063c, also determined as Cannabis sativa, have no page: the catalogue does not describe them and publishes no image, so what they are is not known.

Catalogue number. The infobox stores the barcode, MO-2423693. Tropicos numbers the specimen 103430257, GBIF's catalogue number, and the accession number on the tag is 06925.

Collector. The collector and identifier fields take the catalogue's James Ojascastro.

Image. The photograph is published under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0, by Carolina Romero for the Missouri Botanical Garden. It is uploaded unaltered, at the size published.

Source discrepancies

  • Tropicos dates the collection 31 October to 1 November 2022; GBIF dates it 31 October 2022, the date the infobox stores.
  • Tropicos lists no image for the specimen; GBIF relays one, the jar photograph shown here.
