Evidentiary scope

The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 41728 (Inventory No. 46 (1919), p. 16) and the entry for PI 41728 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the station, its director, the channel and the crop the seed came from. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.

Identifier

The identifier NPG-KOR-SEO-0019140001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 41728.

  • NPG stands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.
  • KOR is the ISO code for Korea.
  • SEO stands for Seoul.
  • Month 00: the date the seed was gathered is not known.
  • Year 1914 is the year of the crop the seed came from.
  • 0001 is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.

Classification

The seed was grown at a government model station, so the accession is classified Other. Neither source says where the station's stock came from.

Collectors and donors

GRIN-Global lists Honda in its collector field. The printed inventory says he presented the seed, which his station had grown, so the infobox gives no collector.

Location and georeferencing

Keijo is the Japanese-era name of Seoul. The station is not located within the city, so the coordinate is the point OpenStreetMap gives for Seoul (relation 2297418), 37.57, 126.98. It marks the city the source names, not the station. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 15 km, the radius of today's city (about 605 km²) plus 1 km for the two-decimal form; the city of 1914 was much smaller.

Dates

The collection date is 1914, the year of the station's crop the inventory gives. The seed reached Washington on 12 January 1916, its received date, as both sources give it. The identifier carries month 00 and the crop year.
