Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 65618 (Inventory No. 85 (1928), pp. 25–26) and the entry for PI 65618 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the explorer's number and date, the man he had the seed from and his home, and a description of the seed. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-CHN-UNK-1019250001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 65618.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.CHNis the ISO code for China.UNK: no province is recorded.- Month
10: October, the month the seed was gathered. - Year 1925 is the year the seed was gathered.
0001is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
The seed came from one man, and the entry does not say who grew it or where, so the accession is classified Unknown.
Collectors and donors
GRIN-Global lists Dorsett and L. B. Smearnoff. The printed entry says the seed was obtained from Smearnoff, so the infobox gives no collector; Dorsett's number, 4571, is in the text.
Location and georeferencing
The inventory names Echo, L. B. Smearnoff's home, and nothing more. No place of that name has been matched to a settlement on today's map, so the page has no point and no province; the map is off.
Dates
The collection date, 25 October 1925, is the date of Dorsett's number, the day he had the seed from Smearnoff, as both sources give it. Both give the month of receipt only, December 1925, which is the received date.
