Evidentiary scope

The label records the plant as planted, on the sandy banks of the Mekong, and gives two uses: the dried parts smoked, and the plant fed to pigs. It is a single gathering and shows neither a continuing population nor a living germplasm holding, so it supports neither a landrace nor a feral classification. The accession is classified Other. No conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

Don Long is mapped in OpenStreetMap after all: an island in Muang Saen, Khong District, Champasak, at 14.04421, 105.79847, which is the district the label names. The island stands at 83 m on SRTM against the label's 75 m, a gap of 8 m, which is independent evidence that this is the place. The infobox georeferences the island at 14.04, 105.80 as a locality point, not a reconstructed collection point. Entered under Tier A of the coordinate ruling of 18 September 2026. This supersedes the refusal recorded here on 23 September 2026, which rested on the name not being found.

Editorial treatment

The sheet is filed under Naturalis, the only herbarium whose copy could be read; the label records three duplicates, which were not traced.

Naturalis and GBIF both record the country as unknown and give no locality, because neither field was keyed from the label. The country, province, district and locality on this page are read from the label image, not from the catalogue. That is also why a `country=TH` or `country=LA` search of GBIF does not return this sheet.

The heading with THAILAND struck out and LAOS typed beside it is the collector's own correction to a Thai label form.
