Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The label places a cannabis plant in the environs of Erivan in 1904. It gives no habitat, no use and no note on cultivation. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the holder's image (3646 × 5276 pixels).
- Label. Printed Herbarium Universitatis Mosquensis. / pencil Cannabis sativa L. / typed 1904. Кавказ: окр Эривани. / typed Малиянц, Г.П (the initial Г faint).
- The stamped number 7520 near the barcode is a registration number of the herbarium, not a field number.
- A pencilled 1973 in the lower right corner, in the hand seen on nearly every sheet of this series in the herbarium, says nothing about its purpose and is not used.
Georeferencing
The point 40.177642, 44.512591 is the one the herbarium's database publishes for this sheet, with an uncertainty of 20 km. It lies 10 m from the centre of Yerevan as OpenStreetMap maps it (node 130040361, place=city), in Kentron district, so it is a point for the city, as the label's environs of Erivan allows, and not the place the plant was gathered. SRTM gives 999 m there; the label gives no altitude. Basis: holder's georeference. Uncertainty: about 20 km.
Editorial treatment
Place. Erivan is Yerevan; the province field takes Yerevan, the city's own first-level unit.
Collector. The collector field takes the catalogue's G. P. Maliyants, the label's Малиянц, Г.П. No source read gives the collector's full name, which is not linked.
Source discrepancies
- The catalogue names the collector as the determiner; the label carries the pencilled name only and does not say who wrote it.
