Evidentiary scope
The label records Cannabis – cultivé (cultivated cannabis) in Y-nan, the province of Yunnan. It names no settlement or district and gives no date or use, so the cultivation is tied neither to a place nor to a time. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from GBIF's cached copy of the holder's image (2,000 pixels wide).
- Old label (handwritten): Y-nan / N° 342 / Cannabis – cultivé / E.E.M.
- Museum label. HERBARIUM MUSEI PARISIENSIS / Chine: Yunnan / leg. E.E. Maire.
- Loose leaf. A broad, entire leaf of another plant lies at the foot of the sheet. It is not part of the gathering.
Georeferencing
No point is given: Y-nan names the province of Yunnan and nothing finer. The province field takes Yunnan.
Editorial treatment
Classification. The label says the plant was cultivated, but in a whole province, with no settlement, district or date, so the class stays Other.
Title and date. No date is on the sheet; the title takes Maire's number and (s.d.).
Collector. The initials E.E.M. on the old label and leg. E.E. Maire on the museum label give the collector, and the collector field takes E. E. Maire. He is Édouard-Ernest Maire (1848–1932), a priest of the Missions Étrangères de Paris sent to the Yunnan vicariate in 1872, head of the Tong-tchouan district until 1890 and then pro-vicar of Yunnan (French Wikipedia; Harvard botanist index), and the prose links that form. He is not the Algerian botanist René Maire (1878–1949).
