Evidentiary scope
Koelz's field label, headed Flora of Lahul, gives the locality Sisu, the habitat Door yard (the ground by a house), an altitude of 10,000 feet, the date 25 July 1930, the common name Bhang and a height of 6½ feet. Its special notes read Roasted seeds eaten and leaves smoked as drug, with also cultivated added in pencil. The label therefore places the plant in a dooryard and separately states that the plant was also cultivated. It does not say whether the mounted plant was planted or came up by itself, so it records both and does not say which this one was. It names no local variety. The accession is classified Unknown. It does not establish a continuing population or a living germplasm holding, and no conservation priority is assigned.
Georeferencing
Modern official sources use the spelling Sissu for the village in Lahaul and describe it as overlooking the Chandra River. The label names the settlement but does not identify a collection point within it, so the coordinate is Sissu's own point in OpenStreetMap (node 342116474), 32.47, 77.13, used as a locality georeference rather than as a reconstructed collection point. Sissu stands at about 3,025 m against the label's 3,048 m. The label's Door yard places the gathering inside the village rather than near it, so the point sits closer to the collection site than on most sheets georeferenced this way.
The coordinate georeferences the place the label names, at two decimal places, with the mapped object named above. A village point is taken to about 1 km for the village itself, and 1 km is added for the rounding of the point. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 2 km. Éloise 06:11, 18 September 2026 (+07)
Editorial treatment
The note records uses and cultivation in the locality but does not identify the people following those practices, their frequency or the preparation used for smoking.
The label describes the flowers as yellowish green, envelope tinged with purple and does not state the plant's sex; earlier revisions of the article called the flowers pistillate. The words also cultivated are added in pencil below the special note, and the article reports them as a separate addition.
These notes were moved from the accession article during the article-Talk cleanup of 16 September 2026. Source citations remain in the article. Éloise 11:13, 16 September 2026 (+07)
Sequence data
The infobox lists BioSample SAMEA112688672 as the same lot as this accession because the tissue was taken from this sheet:
- its specimen_voucher attribute is NY:1414432, the catalogue number of this sheet at the New York Botanical Garden;
- its occurrence_id attribute, 9a8b43a4-af96-4045-8f0c-1592efc9b858, is the occurrence identifier GBIF publishes for that sheet;
- its ref_biomaterial link is the holder's own page for the sheet (http://sweetgum.nybg.org/science/vh/specimen_details.php?irn=2045076);
- its collector and date (W. N. Koelz, collector_number 692, 1930-07-25) are the sheet's;
- its source_material_description reads Leaflets removed from original specimen voucher.
The runs ERR10950037, ERR10949932 listed with it are that sample's sequencing reads (SRA runinfo: BioSample SAMEA112688672).
The article reports what the archive's entries say about the sampling and the sequencing, and no analysis of the data. Éloise 04:29, 5 October 2026 (+07)
