Evidentiary scope
The label places a cannabis plant on the route between Tongsa Bridge (1,700 metres) and Tongsa (2,000 metres) in April 1967. It names no use, variety or local name and no habitat, and does not say whether the plant was wild, escaped or cultivated. The accession is classified Other. A single sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. No conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from the Edinburgh image (E00128892, 2763 × 4096 pixels).
- Printed label Herbarium Universitatis Tokyoensis / 東京大学理学部植物学教室 / The Third Botanical Expedition to Eastern Himalaya 1967, with the number 5203 written by hand over a struck earlier figure.
- Typed entries. Cannabis sativa L. / Patria Bhutan Tashiling(2100) (struck through) --== Tongsa Bridge (1700) == Tongsa(2000) / Datum April 16 1967 / Legit H. Hara (struck through) , H. Kanai, G. Murata, H. Ohashi, O. Tanaka & T. Yamazaki / Determinavit: blank.
- Route sketch pasted above: Apr. 14 - 20; Neylong, Tashiling, Tongsa, Tongsa Bridge; 2000m, 2500m; Uto La Road.
Georeferencing
The label names a stretch of route and gives the altitude at each end: from Tongsa Bridge (1,700 metres) to Tongsa (2,000 metres). The coordinate is OpenStreetMap's town node for Trongsa (node 11126451907, 27.5016, 90.5076), at the named end; its SRTM 30-metre elevation is 2,128 metres against the label's 2,000. The point stands for that end of the stretch, not for the plant. The elevation field takes the label's 2,000 metres for Tongsa, the point used.
Editorial treatment
The title and collector field take H. Kanai, the first collector named on the label once the struck-out name is set aside. The label is the primary document; the catalogue's order, with Hara first, does not follow it. The collector number reads Kanai, H. et al. 5203. The collection date follows the label's 16 April; the catalogue's 14 April matches the first day of the route sketch's span, Apr. 14 - 20. The province field takes Trongsa District.
