Evidentiary scope
The label records cannabis as One of the commonest 'weeds' at Kamdesh in June 1969, growing everywhere. That directly documents a ruderal occurrence and supports the Feral classification. It does not say whether the plants descended from cultivation nearby or were cultivated anywhere in the valley, and it names no use, variety or local name. The quotation marks around weeds are the collector's. The sheet does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. No conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read from the Edinburgh image (E00405508, 2483 × 4096 pixels).
- Label 1 EX HERBERIO KEWENSI (the label's spelling) / AFGHANISTAN : (by hand) Konar Province, Kamdesh / One of the commonest 'weeds' grows everywhere. / alt. c.1126 m. / COLL. PROF. T. F. HEWER No. 1411. 8 . 6 . 1969.
- Label 2 EX HERBERIO KEWENSI / (by hand) Cannabis sativa L. / AFGHANISTAN / Konar Province / COLL. PROF. T. F. HEWER No. 1411. 8.6.1969.
- Vienna revision slip HERB. MUSEI HIST. NATUR. VINDOB. / Rev. pro „Flora Iranica" / Est! / 197 with 7 added by hand / K. H. Rechinger, with, by hand in blue, subsp. indica (Lam.) Small + Cronquist.
- Edinburgh receipt stamp ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN EDINBURGH with 135/76 and a sheet count written in: not a field datum.
Georeferencing
No coordinate is asserted. OpenStreetMap returns Kamdesh as a district boundary (relation 3927374) and no village point was found for it, so the label's 1,126 metres could not be tested against a place. In 1969 the label placed Kamdesh in Konar (Kunar) Province; the district is today in Nuristan Province, which the province field gives.
Editorial treatment
The scientific name field takes the latest determination on the sheet, Rechinger's 1977 subsp. indica (Lam.) Small + Cronquist, in GBIF's form of that name; the catalogue's Cannabis sativa L. is reported in the article. The collector field takes T.F. Hewer, the label's form; the label calls him Prof. and gives no further identification.
