Evidentiary scope
The labels give the place, the date and the collector. They name no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of each sheet (PE 00557953, 1,010 × 1,440 pixels; PE 00777345, 1,017 × 1,440 pixels).
- Field form (both sheets; printed FLORA OF CHINA, typed): Field No. Hao.3544 / Date 24/6/1932 / Locality Chengchow, Honan / Collector K.S.Hao.
- Herbarium label (both sheets; HERBARIUM ACADEMIÆ NATIONALIS PEKINENSIS / FLORA CHINENSIS, typed): Cannabis sativa Linn. / Honan: Chengchow June 24, 1932 / Leg. K.S.Hao (3544). Det. W.Y.Hsia.
- PE 00777345 only. Tag (printed): Coll. Hao-Kin-Shen / No. 3544. Determination slip: Cannabis sativa Linn. / Determinavit W.Y.Hsia.
- Hg Cl2 on both; stamped numbers 421578 (PE 00557953) and 421577 (PE 00777345).
The two readings agree.
Georeferencing
Chengchow is Zhengzhou (郑州), now the capital of Henan; in 1932 it was the county town of Zheng County (Chinese Wikipedia). The point 34.75, 113.62 is Zhengzhou's place node in OpenStreetMap (node 244083094, which carries Wikidata Q30340); SRTM gives 112 m there, and the label gives no altitude. The point stands for the town and its surroundings, not a spot within them. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 15 km.
Editorial treatment
Two sheets, one accession. The sheets share the number, date, place and labels. The repository and catalogue number are PE 00557953's.
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's K. S. Hao; the tag's Hao-Kin-Shen is the full form. He is Hao Kin-shen (郝景盛), born in 1903 or 1904: the Harvard botanist index gives 1904 and Chinese Wikipedia 1903, and they disagree on his death (1965 in the index, 1955 in Wikidata and Chinese Wikipedia). The index lists his collecting in Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Qinghai and Sichuan. The prose links Hao Kin-shen.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
