Identifier

The accession identifier is EAG-ETH-ORO-0120210001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment EAG stands for East Africa Genes.
  • Year 2021 is the year of the first dated document that lists the line: the catalogue capture of 21 January 2021. No source gives a collection year, so the identifier takes the first attested year. It is a lower bound, not a collection date, and the collection date field is empty.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
  • Province segment. The seller names Shashamane. The town lies in the Oromia Region, so the province field is Oromia Region and the segment is ORO.
  • Sequence 0001. The only Ethiopian line.

Sourcing

The catalogue page Pure African Strains (https://eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/) was read as it stood on 8 October 2026 and in twelve archived captures from 7 August 2020 to 4 June 2023 (https://web.archive.org/web/*/eastafricagenes.blog/pure-african-strains/). No capture between June 2023 and the current page could be read. The line first appears in the capture of 21 January 2021. The seller's blog posts of 30 March 2020 and 15 August 2022 were read from its site, and the Overgrow posts of District_Flora (4 and 27 January 2022, https://overgrow.com/t/fbsc-shashamane-reproduction-run/71628/1) and of the seller (4 June 2026, https://overgrow.com/t/ethiopian-shashamane-green-mango-phenotype/177254/13) from saved copies.

District_Flora recalled being told by the seller that some of the seed it had collected was bag seed, that is, seed found in cannabis bought for smoking (https://overgrow.com/t/fbsc-shashamane-reproduction-run/71628/101). The seller's own 2022 post describes buying the cannabis by the pound. Neither says where the seed now sold was gathered. No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named.

The Lamb's Bread link is the seller's speculation, put as a question, and is reported as such.

Typing

  • Classification: Other. East Africa Genes' description of its lines as landrace sativas is its own claim and is attributed in the article; a seller's listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. No source gives a chain of custody from a growing population to the seed on sale.
  • Accession type is left empty: the sources do not say whether the seed on sale was gathered from growers or reproduced from earlier seed.
  • Traits. The flavours and effects in the article are the seller's words. The catalogue's "Vegetation & Flowering" figure counts vegetative growth and flowering together, so it is reported in the article and not entered as a flowering time.

Georeferencing

The point 7.20, 38.61 is the town of Shashamane, OpenStreetMap node 14058011683 (place=city), in Shashemene Zuria woreda, West Arsi Zone, Oromia. It reverse-geocodes to Shashamane, Shashemene Zuria, West Arsi, Oromia, Ethiopia. OpenStreetMap maps no town boundary; the built-up area, judged from mapped buildings (at least about three a hectare), reaches about 5 km from the point. A locality also named Shashemene lies 175 km away in South West Shewa; the seller's Rastafari town is this one. The seller ties the line both to the town and to the area around it, so the point marks the town, not a farm. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 6 km.

Spelling

The seller writes Shashamane, and OpenStreetMap labels the town node the same way; the town is also commonly written Shashemene, the spelling of its woreda. The article keeps the seller's spelling, which is also the line's name.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The sources give nothing about the size or status of the source population.
